CORINTHIANS LOSE UNBEATEN RUN TO FERROVIARIA

Brazilian Serie A giants Corinthians have lost their unbeaten run to Ferroviaria after they were beaten 2-1 in a Campeonato Paulista clash on Tuesday night.

The result ended a run of 10 games without defeat for Corinthians since the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Santos in the middle of February.

Corinthians drew four games in a row on the back of that loss at Santos before going on an impressive run of four straight games. A draw and a win then followed before the last game which saw Ferroviaria come from behind to beat Corinthians. Camacho had given Corinthians the lead with two minutes remaining in the first half and their opponents didn’t hit back until the last 16 minutes of the game.

Defensive midfielder HigorMeritaoequalised for Ferroviaria on 74 minutesĀ  before Alexandre Rodrigues Soares scored the winning goal with a minute left on the clock to give his team victory. Corinthians had drawn five games and won five games over a period of ten matches before the game against Ferroviariaearlier in the week.

After the defeat to hosts Santos in February, Corinthians played out a goalless draw at home to Vasco da Gama. The Vasco da Gama preceded a succession of away goalless draws. Corinthians played out a goalless draw at Internacional before recording the same scoreline at Bragatino.

In their next game after the trip toBragatino, hosts Corinthians and Palmeiras shared a four-goal thriller. The two teams settled for a 2-2 draw. They then beat Prone Preta 2-1 at home with ten men before a 1-0 away win San Caetano. In the first round of Copa do Brasil, Corinthians thrashed hosts Salgueiro AC 3-0 away from home. Another away victory followed with the 1-0 away victory over Mirassol in the Campeonato Paulista.

The second round of Copa do Brasil saw Corinthians beat Retro on penalties at home to qualify for the next round after the two teams played 1-1. They then defeated Guarani 1-0 away from home in their last game before the Campeonato Paulista clash with Ferroviaria this week.
