Southampton’s Ronald Koeman is incredibly proud of what his team achieved in this past season as the club managed to finish their campaign at the 7th spot of the Premier League which is the best position in the history of the club but Ronald Koeman has stated that expectations are high and even with this outstanding season, he wants to accomplish more things in the near future with this team.
Ronald Koeman told reporters: “It will be difficult next season, the expectation will be higher, but we can be proud about this season of Southampton. It is very difficult to get better because you get always a reaction from the bigger teams. But still, we believe in our qualities and the philosophy the club wants to bring. We try to bring young players in and play good football. If it’s the seventh or the eighth or the ninth position, it’s not all about position in the table.’’
Morgan Schneiderlin has been one of the standout performers for Ronald Koeman and Southampton in this season and the 25 year old French midfielder has caught the eyes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Tite returned to Corinthians back in January and was expected to revive at the club’s fortunes especially in the Copa Libertadores.
This, however, has not happened this season after the club suffered an early elimination from the competition that they won only a couple of years ago. A 1-0 loss against Paraguayan club Guaraní sees them exit the competition at the last 16 stage. Corinthians came into the match this week needing a convincing victory in order to reach the next stage. This was after a 2-0 win for Guaraní in the first leg. Yet, Corinthians were unable to make any impact as they surrendered meekly in a 1-0 loss.
The 3-0 exit on aggregate is a huge disappointment for Tite, who has accepted that he will be facing a lot of criticism of others for this exit. However, he plans to carry on working with the same kind of dedication in the hope that the season would have a better conclusion. Corinthians have made a good start to the Brazilian Serie A table. They have won the opening two matches – albeit by a 1-0 margin – to lead the table with six points from the two matches. The recent events over Cruzeiro helps take some pressure off the manager. Corinthians maintained their own hundred percent winning record in the Copa Libertadores after a 4-0 victory over Uruguayan outfit Danubio.
The Brazilian outfit have already had a significant advantage over São Paulo coming into the match. They have now extended disadvantage to 6 points after São Paulo were defeated by San Lorenzo in their match. This result ensures that Corinthians can take their final two games in the group relatively easily. It would take heavy defeats from the matches in order to knock them off the top spot. Their final group match is against São Paulo.
Manager Tite seemed pleased after the match and this is also due to the good run of form shown by the club in the state Championships. Corinthians have a 11 point lead in the Paulista Group B after 13 matches. Tite said that managers can rarely enjoy their teams on the pitch, but this was an occasion where he could enjoy the match given that the performance of the players was amazing. Despite this victory, Corinthians still need to get some points in order to secure qualification to the next round of the Copa Libertadores. Reminding his players of this fact,Tite wanted more professionalism in the next two matches. The Brazilian club Corinthians ended the year 2014 on a positive note as they clinched a 2-1 victory over Criciuma in their last league match of the previous year. The start of 2015 was even better as Corinthians claimed a very convincing 4-0 triumph against Once Caldas in the Copa Libertadores.
However, not everything went successfully good for the Brazilian side as the club reported a loss of €29.8 million during 2014.
Corinthians had a fairly good previous season as they claimed the 4th spot in their league and managed to reach the quarter-final stages of the cup. It wasn’t a memorable or outstanding season for the Brazilian side but it wasn’t a disastrous one either, it was simply good enough for the team to stay in the top spots of the Brazilian league.
One of the main reasons on why the club experienced such a big deficit was due to the construction of the stadium as the club had to the club having to amortize the arrears incurred by the administration under of Andres Sanchez. The club also paid about €16.5 million to government tax collection agency Refis. Continue reading “Corinthians ended 2014 on Winning Note”
Corinthians is considered to be the biggest or most prestigious club in Brazil after having won the Brazilian League a total of 27 times, they are the leaders on having it collected most times.
